Villagers Burn 13 suspect arrested Bandits to Death in Sokoto in Tangaza Local Government

Angry mobs attacked the divisional police headquarters in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing 13 alleged bandits and burning their bodies to ashes.

The bandits were reportedly among those who attacked the area around 8 p.m. on Friday, killing two people, including a shop owner.

It was also learned that following the incident on Saturday morning, people, mostly youngsters, assembled and helped local police officials to pursue the robbers in their forest.

Thirteen of the alleged assailants were apprehended in Tangaza woodland and taken to the divisional police headquarters during the raid.

Residents followed the squad to the divisional police station after they were brought into town, according to a local, and requested that the bandits be murdered in their presence.

“The youth were angry and despite pleas from the Divisional Police Officer and the local government chairman, they insisted that if the policemen did not kill the bandits in their presence, they would burn down the police station,” he said.

Following that, the enraged youngsters overcame the police and killed all of the accused, whose bodies were then set on fire.

ASP Sanusi Abubakar, a spokesman for the Sokoto Police Command, verified the occurrence to reporters but did not elaborate at the time this report was made.
